Presentation on Off-Grid, Passive Solar HomeOn Tuesday, April 13, 2004, CEER's Eco Design series featured Brian Nadworny. More showing slides of the environmentally friendly, off-grid, passive solar home he and his family built near Alfred utilizing available technology and design knowledge. Click here for photographs of the house. Brian says: "We started the project (building) in 1998. Our original goal was to have as close to zero utility bills as possible and along with that was the goal of simplifying our lives and spending more time growing together as a family. We have photovoltaic panels, a wind turbine, composting toilets, on-demand water heater, and many other energy saving devices and designs incorporated into our dome home. The entire family played a part of all phases of the design and construction. We heavily researched all parts of construction and materials before starting and during the process. We believe that people have the capability of teaching themselves whatever they wish to learn including all parts of the construction process." | |
