AU Patent Policy

Compensation to the Inventor and to Alfred University

If a patent is obtained by Alfred University, the University, in recognition of the services of the inventor(s), has made provisions entitling the inventor(s) and his/her heirs or legatees to share in any proceeds from the licensing of such patent. Where the faculty or staff member is judged to have equity in the patent, this (these) member(s) shall not receive less than twenty percent (20%) of the available income after all expense of execution and/or marketing/licensing of the invention/patent by an outside contractor, have been cared for.

All aspects relating to the prosecution of the patent, development of the patent, assignment and/or sale of the patent are under the sole jurisdiction of the President, Provost and Alfred University Board of Trustees, or their designee(s).

All royalties derived from licensing any patent associated with research involving the Center for Environmental and Energy Research will be payable to the university and distributed as follows:

Alfred University 50%
Sponsors, if any, underwriting patent costs 50%

All monies received by the University will be distributed as follows:

Principal project supervisor and other university faculty or research technicians or assistants in accordance with university policy 50%
Center for Environmental and Energy Research 50%
